Location of Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court

While the Easter Caribbean Supreme Court is a superior court for the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States that include Grenada, Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, the Commonwealth of Dominica and the British Overseas Territories, it is headquartered in Castries, Saint Lucia.

The ECSC has unlimited jurisdiction in each member state and interprets and applies the laws, decides on matters civil and criminal and hears appeals.  The headquarters of the ECSC is on the second floor of the Heraldine Rock Building.  It is on Block B on the Waterfront.  This building includes the Justices of Appeal’s chambers, the Judicial Education Institute, the Court of Appeal Registry, Library and Administrative Services.  It also has the Court Offices of the nine member states which house the chambers for the High Court Judges and offices of the High Court Registry.

While the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court is composed of many members like the Chief Justice, Justices of Appeal, High Court Judges and Masters, the High Court Judges are assigned to as well as reside in the various member states.  The high court registry is headed by a registrar who is legally trained to provide administrative and legal support for the function of the High Court.

Each member state has its own Court Office which includes the high court registry and the office of the local high court judge.  In this way, the ECSC fulfills its mission of providing access to an accountable and independent system of justice.
